Top Indian Cave Destinations

Long time ago, man was just using caves for protection and for shelter. But even though people need the caves for the above mentioned necessities even today, there are many tourists who simply love to go and visit the famous caves across different parts in India. People love visiting these cave destinations to experience the taste of adventure and mystery and also to experience its culture and spirituality. 1. Ajanta caves:

Ajanta Caves that comes near Aurangabad district of Maharashtra are basically a 30 rock-cut cave monuments which were formed during 2nd century BCE to the 600 CE. These caves also include painting and sculptures that are considered to be Buddhist religious art. These caves are been recognized by World Heritage Site by UNESCO and it is also a protected monument under the Archeological Survey of India.

2.Ellora Caves:

Ellora caves are situated at the North-Western part of the city of Maharashtra. These caves were built during the Rashtrakuta Dynasty. Even these caves are one among the World Heritage Site. It has been recognized that Ellora represents the epitome of Indian rock-cut architecture. This is also a protected monument of the Archaeological Survey of India. This cave consists of 34 caves.

3.Badami Cave Temples:

Badami cave temples are the temples located at Badami, which is a town in Bagalkot district of the Northern part of Karnataka. Badami was the capital of the Chalukyas who ruled the State of Karnatake during the 6th and 8th centuries. The cave temples over here are carved out of soft Badami sandstone hills above.

4.Kanheri Caves:

These caves are situated in the midst of this commercial capital of India, Mumbai. The caves are located near the Borivali on the western outskirts of Mumbai. The caves are located in the midst of green forests of the sanjay Gandhi national Park. These caves demonstrate the Buddhist influence on the art and culture. Monsoon is the perfect season to visit these caves.

5.Borra Caves:

Borra Caves are also called as Borra Guhalu in Telugu as it is situated in the Visakhapatnam district of the State of Andhra Pradesh. These caves are considered as one of the largest and deepest caves in the country.
